Disklavier

I have just uploaded a free file to my website. It is a "Christmas Carillon" player for your MIDI file player. I have tested it on my computer and pianos and have had a few friends test it but it would be good to hear if it works from others.

The program implements a "Virtual Carillon" which plays selected MIDI (or other media files such as mp3) files on a scheduled basis. At any specified time, file playing automatically begins.

As configured, "carillon.exe" will play "Westminster" chimes on the hour and then play a Christmas Carol. Default playing is with the "Windows Media Player" using the default MIDI device. Following the simple installation instructions will create this default configuration. Just unzip the downloaded file and read the simple instructions in the "readme_first.txt" file. This will play the music on you computer sound card unless your computer configuration is highly unusual. 

If you have the ability to connect your computer to your Disklavier or PianoDisc piano you can configure "carillon.exe" to play your piano instead. You will need to read the "use of carillon.doc" or "use of carillon.pdf" file for advanced instructions. Don't be intimidated. You can set up this program to do all sorts of fun things so the manual is several pages long. To have the program play your piano, you just need to change the MIDI device that "Windows Media Player" uses. Look for instructions in the "use of" file.

If you download the program, please let me know if it works or if you have any problems. I will never know if I don't hear from people who try it. If you find the manual confusing, please let me know.

I believe I have the MIDI files set up to play the piano and chime parts correctly. If you play on your Disklavier or PianoDisc (with built in accompaniment synthesizer) and both a chime and piano part do (or do not) please let me know.

The Christmas Carols are from Reproducing Piano Rolls from Ampico and Duo-Art but you can substitute any files that you prefer.
