I think that if you are in Hawaii, the prices you were
quoted don't look too bad, considering how cars and
other consumer goods are marked up compared to the
continental US.

Admittedly, I'm a proponent of using local dealers,
but in your situation I would find out how many DKV
trained technicians are in the area and on which
islands.... depending on the situation, it may be
worth it to pay the local price if the dealer is
willing to include the cost of getting his tech back
and forth to where you are.
