Yes a computer would be a lot more versatile.
I would like to thank you, as I have used a lot of your programs and files from your website.
Usually something to to with midi files, or converting one of your midi “Spencer Rolls” files
for use on my piano. I like your files, as most are for piano. A lot of web midi has a compilation
of different instruments, which doesn’t work well for piano.  I have a korg module that I can route
midi through to get other instruments, but rarely use it. I like the natural “Real Piano” sound.
You have a fantastic site.

a floppy emulator certainly would be better than a floppy. personally i like to have thousands of files to choose from and to play them individually or from playlists, which can be done with a computer very easily.

  A lot of work to transfer the floppies, but when done, your whole floppy collection is
  on one SD card that plays through your original disklavier controller, via the emulator
  that replaces your original floppy drive. Of course you have to have some electronics
  and computer knowledge to get everything working, but other than time, its pretty easy.
  Hardest part is creating the floppy disk image so it will work with the disklavier.

  I have an “Old” Mx-88 Disklavier. This is an upright piano and the controller sits on top
  the piano. My personal preference is not to have a computer sitting there too. The
  Controller is a DKC5R which uses a standard 720k 2DD floppy. All functions of the
  controller work exactly the same as it you had the original floppy drive installed.
  You only select the disk you want on the emulator.

  just play the piano from a computer and chose whatever you want. i can't believe that anyone is still using floppies other than to copy the data to other media.

      Check to yahoo website or carolrpt.com for Disklavier utilities. There is a utility to convert midi files to Eseq. Warning:  you will need to locate 720kb floppies and another utility to create the index and play order. 

      Or, you can find a DSR100 which connects to your piano via the midi interface. This 1.44MB floppies. Read midi files and has a tone generator for orchestral accompaniment
