Disklavier

The MX100A requires a floppy disk to be recognized in the floppy drive for the MIDI ports to function.

I believe you can get a new FDD from Yamaha Piano Service. Instillation is not very difficult.

I've owned a MX100A since 1989, and many years ago, the floppy drive failed to read any disk I inserted.  Since then the MIDI ports won't work either, and now the floppy drive won't even seat a disk properly.



First of all, I'm wondering if the MIDI ports are somehow tied to a disk being seated in the floppy drive.  I seem to remember (when the unit was working correctly) that in order for the piano to send or receive MIDI info, I had to have a disk in the drive.  Does anyone know if this is true or not?



Also, does anyone know where I could get a replacement floppy drive, and how difficult it is to replace?  I'm pretty tech savvy (I've had laptops completely disassembled and reassembled them, repaired iPhones, etc.) so I'm hoping this is something I might be able to do myself.
