Re: [disklavier] MarkIIXG- connecting computer for teaching software

2015-11-11 by George Frederick Litterst

Good afternoon, everyone.

Ed, I agree with Bill about the settings. You might also see which channel the piano the transmitting on. Best to have it transmit on Channel 1 which is the default. Your software may or may not be listening to all MIDI channels.

I did watch your video and have a couple of comments. First, it does make a difference as to which plugs on the interface are connected to MIDI In and MIDI Out. In your case, you obviously have it connected correctly.

In your software setup, you noticed that the software has a green light that suggests that it is getting data from the piano. Yamaha keyboards typically send Active Sensing data. My guess is that the green light is constantly green because it is responding to active sensing.

In the video you wondered about the Disklavier’s Remote feature. That has nothing to do with this. The Remote feature is rather obscure and has to do with controlling the Disklavier’s transport buttons from external MIDI (or the reverse).

In your video you also wondered about Local Control. LC refers to whether the instrument is generating sounds internally when you play the keys. Since the piano is an acoustic piano, I think that setting is irrelevant.

Bottom line: double-check that MIDI Out is set to Keyboard Out and that the MIDI Out channel is #1. If that doesn’t work, make sure that the piano can record a new song (which will be a test that it is sensing the keys).

Regards,
PianoBench

See the link below for a picture. I still can't get my playing on the piano to show up in the software program. Still need hellllpppppp!
