Re: [disklavier] Strong metallic noise with main pedal of Disklavier DC6E3PRO

2015-09-12 by carwizard

My technician (Mark Hullibarger) lengthened my pedal rod just long enough to take up the excessive play that was making the noise. You have to be careful not to over tighten it which will hang up a solenoid and cause it to overheat and flip a code. When this happens, it plays correctly for a while and then you lose your petals until it cools down. You can figure out which Rod has too much play by letting the piano play and holding pressure on each petal rod in the up or down position until you hear the noise change. That's the offending rod.

Bill, my DKV sustain pedal sometimes makes a knocking sound sometimes, especially on quiet passages.

Does not happen when I press pedal with my foot. Can't see anything visually.

Any ideas?

Hi again Julien,

That noise should not be there. Notice the rod in shape of an "L". This piece is only needed when the pedal lyre is removed from the piano. It appears that metal on the black wooden lever is coming down and hitting this L.

If the L is not coming out of the keybed at 90 degrees then bend it so it is. If that doesn't give enough clearance when the lever returns to rest, then turn it counter clockwise so the drops lower. You may have to make 1 or 2 360 degree turns to lower it enough.

I hope this makes sense.

See small attached film to see and listen the noise. This piano is new and did that noise from the very first day when you release strongly the main pedal. What do you suggest ? Thank you ! Julien
