if you want really random playing, i have a program that names all files in a folder with random number names. you could copy a folder with files you want to play randomly, rename them with random numbers and then make a playlist of the whole folder and play in sequence. since the names are random it will play every song in random order and not repeat any.

For the midi player, VanBascos midi/karaoke ( http://www.vanbasco.com/ ) works great on old windows and it's free. Not sure on newer stuff. I'm happy with it. I have one very old windows computer for converting old Yamaha proprietary disks and I use this program there. I have 600-700 files on it no problem. All my other computers are Apple and I use Sweet Midi Player on those. They offer the best support I've ever come across for any software. They've very responsive and have helped me with problems that had nothing to do with their program. But, on the desktop application, it doesn't have a random play feature. The Ipad application does have random play although it's not as random as you'd think. They are working to modify that, so I'm told. I'm pretty sure they have a free trial or demo. http://www.ronimusic.com/ Well worth checking.
Best of luck.
