Good evening, everyone. Over the years, Yamaha has published a small number of piano concerto files for Disklavier. These files use the built-in XG tone generator for the orchestrations. These orchestrations stretch the limits of realism that you can expect from an XG MIDI tone generator. In general, however, I think that you’ll find them to be much more satisfying than MIDI files that you find on the Internet. You should be able to find them at www.yamahamusicsoft.com <http://www.yamahamusicsoft.com/>. Files that you find on the Internet are typically GM instead of XG, which limits the realism a bit, and the piano part is usually not recorded on the Disklavier, which makes the result even less satisfying. A more satisfying experience would be to hear a piano concerto with either a more advanced tone generator (such as Garritan Personal Orchestra) or with a real audio recording of the orchestra. At various times there have been concerto broadcasts of piano concerto performances on DisklavierTV. Regrettably, I don’t find any in the On Demand section of the DisklavierTV site at this time, but you should watch for them. You can find quite a number of piano concerto recordings in the QRS library: http://www.qrsmusic.com/music.asp?cid1=102&cid2=106 <http://www.qrsmusic.com/music.asp?cid1=102&cid2=106> I believe that they were made using audio recordings of the orchestra from Music Minus One. I don’t know how well they play nor if they are playable on the Disklavier, but they might be worth considering. Regards, PianoBench > On Dec 14, 2014, at 5:08 AM, James Fry groups@...
