Looking For Copy of SoundDiver

Looking For Copy of SoundDiver

2004-09-28 by kornelious23

Hey yall, I've never succeded in getting the tape interface to work
to be able to load patches. I've even created my own tones and tried
saving them to tape and it still won't work. The process keeps
cutting out on me in the first second or two. Of course I'm going to
keep trouble-shooting and trying to get this thing going.

BUT/SO, I've figured my only other option might be using SoundDiver,
but as you guys know, it was discontinued in late 2003. So I'm trying
to find someone who might have a copy of it that I can purchase from
them. I've tried Sweetwater, GC, Sam Ash, etc., but of course they
don't sell it anymore.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys. Kris.

Sorry guys, I forgot to mention I'm on a PC, so of course I'm looking
for a PC copy. Thanks again. Kris.

There's a public beta of SoundDiver 3.1 available [1]. XSkey [2] and
Mac OS X required (though it may work on OS 9.x; I'm not sure).

Hey Chris, thanks for the fast response. Yeah I forgot to mention
that I'm on a PC. I haven't gone through all of emagic's site so I'll
keep looking there for a PC beta. If they don't, does somebody have a
PC copy? Thanks again guys. Kris.

Emagic is now Mac only, as they were acquired by Apple a couple of
years ago.

Hey Chris. Thanks for the reply. Yeah I heard Apple took over Emagic,
which definitely hurt my chances of finding a PC copy this late after
the takeover. That's why I was hoping someone here would have an
older version of SoundDiver, that was still Polaris equipped, in the
PC format. Anyone with a PC copy out there? Thanks again Chris, and
to anyone who could help me out. Kris.

The issue with the PC version of sound diver (not sure about the MAC),
was that it came with the most annoyingly inhuman form of copyright
protection. They implemented a sort of floppy key, where everytime you
installed it, you had to insert the floppy, and it would make a strike
on the copy....once the strikes ran out, you couldn't install it
anymore....and there were only like 3 strikes or some BS like that. I
actually owned this original version, and it would be fair to say that
it spawned alot of hatred in me towards emagic.

There are in fact pirated copies of it out there, obviously, there is
for almost anything. I am not saying I personally use them, or that I
condone such actions, I am simply stating that they are out
there....where are they? If I were to use the lingo of the underground
when speaking of unspeakable places, I would say that they are in 'the
usual places'.

Hey Byron. Nice post. Thanks for the info. I didn't know that about
the copyright thing, that sounds pretty bunk. I've actually called
Emagic about trying to find a PC copy as well and even the Emagic guy
told me to check 'The Usual Places', which is kinda of strange to
hear. But to be honest, I've even had no luck with 'the usual
places'. Maybe it's my machine and I should try someone else's
connection, I'm not sure. All of this is giving me a second wind at
trying to tackle the whole tape thing again, which I should probably
do anyways. Thanks once again Byron and to everyone for their
assistance, I'll ring back with my progress. Kris.

Wow, thats pretty hardcore if emagic is even suggesting that to you!
If it were available to buy, I wouldnt say it was worth it with all
the b-crap with the liscensing disk, not to mention, it can be
infallibly buggy. If emagic themselves were willing to 'free' the
rights to the PC version, I'm sure we could find a way to get the
program posted into the files section....

If someone arranges this and there's not enough space on Yahoo, I'd be
happy to host the file(s) at my Chroma site.

Thanks for the offer.
But I don't think it would be advisable to host an illegal copy of
Sounddiver

Just to be clear, I would NOT host an illegal copy. Byron wrote, "If
emagic themselves were willing to 'free' the rights to the PC version,
I'm sure we could find a way to get the program posted into the files
section." If someone obtains permission from Emagic I'm willing to host
the files.

Anyone have experience in obtaining the rights to a program from a
company? What would be the best and most productive way of going
about it? I'll be glad to go after it. Thanks. Kris.

Hi there, lovers of Chroma Polaris!!!

stop hassles and take a look on the files section of this newsgroup

I'm starting to work for this Patch Editor for Win but...
I've seen too many failures in the past for software development...

First please let me know opinions about it, then I'll go ahead

Bye Folks

Re: [chromapolaris] Re: Looking For Copy of SoundDiver

I'd love to see something other than what exists for SD right now
myself. I'm not sure it's a SD bug, or a bug in my Polaris, but I can
only edit sounds, I can't directly write them to my Polaris from SD.
The edit screen is fine and all (although there seems to be a bug in
one ofthe toggles that mutes the Polaris, I think it was switching
Osc2 to a square wave), but it serves me no good for backing up and
bulk transmits, it just dosn't work. I've used many MANY synths in SD,
I know it's not my midi setup itself.
Cheers and good luck,
byron

It would be absolutely terrific to have a Chroma Polaris patch editor
or librarian that worked in Windows! Sound Diver is no longer
available in a Windows version, and I don't know of any other program
currently available for Windows which can edit programs on the Chroma
Polaris.

How far have you gotten with this project so far?

thanks,
