chroma polaris Local on/off

chroma polaris Local on/off

2006-06-13 by horserotorvator23

hi folks,
I just passed a Ploaris for a lump sum of EURO 600.-.
I'm thinkin' about gettin' this beauty but since I have not the room
for 3 keyboards, I need to know if I can get rid of my NORDLEAD 2
in order to place a POLARIS on that particular stand.
I used the nord as a master, since my prophet reponds to every midi
message, no matter what channel (when keyboard is on Midi out!)
So, is it possible to switch Local on/off for using polaris as a midi
master keyboard (without responding to notes played on other midi
instruments when connected to Midi out).
thanx out there in advance.

Marc,
I don't own a Polaris yet, although I want one soon, but the Polaris
Owner's manual says that the following switches control Local on/off:

Lower Function, Interface, 1 - Main Local control toggle on/off
Lower Function, Interface, 2 - Link Local control toggle on/off
Lower Function, Interface, 3 - Sequencer Local control toggle on/off
Lower Function, Interface, 4 - Main Chroma Interface Out toggle on/off
Lower Function, Interface, 5 - Link Chroma Interface Out toggle on/off
Lower Function, Interface, 6 - Sequencer Chroma Out toggle on/off
Lower Function, Interface, 7 - Main MIDI in toggle on/off
Lower Function, Interface, 8 - Link MIDI in toggle on/off
Lower Function, Interface, 9 - Sequencer MIDI in toggle on/off
Lower Function, Interface, 10 - Main MIDI out toggle on/off
Lower Function, Interface, 11 - Link MIDI out toggle on/off
Lower Function, Interface, 12 - Sequencer MIDI out toggle on/off

These should let you control how the Polaris behaves as a master
keyboard and how it responds to incoming MIDI messages, too.

Yep, IIRC, LF, B, 1 (and LF, B, 2 in case you have link programs) turns
local off.

But, you won't really want to use the polaris as a master keyboard.
Among other things, it only transmits velocity to 100.

Yeah, I had similar thoughts when I purchased my Polaris...needless to say it's mostly a very large multi-timbral sound module in my studio now. My pots are sketchy and such, but the main thing is that it's just very strange to control other synths with it, it's key action is just odd (although fine for playing itself).
