Polaris knob Box

Polaris knob Box

2006-04-03 by edoplastico

I'm Edoardo Gennaro.
When i received my polaris, the box was external, thery ugly, so i
modified it.
Also the Attack slider of filter envelope was not working, I had to re-
solder it onthe board.
Now, the only thing that doesn't works is the E5 key tha plays only
the maximum thelocity also if you press very soft.
I don't know how resolve the problem.
Anyone had the same problem?
Edo

PS
Polaris has a great sound, is fantastic.
A tweeter killer!

Try removing the key and cleaning and/or adjusting the grey contact.
To remove the keys push down on the back and pull forward.

If that doesn't fix it, its much more work, but you will need to
remove the keyboard assembly and check the screws and diodes. If
that doesn't work, you can remove the keyboard PCB and grey membrane
contact and clean both the PCB and contact strip with carbon contact
cleaner.

Following but to Ben's note, each key on the Polaris actually has two
contact pads under it. When should make contact towards the top of the
key-press, while the other should make contact towards the bottom of the
key-press.

The keyboard will look at the time between those two presses and use that
information to try to calculate velocity.

The contacts are implemented via a rubber neck, which has a conductive patch
on the other side. If that neck is bent, or if there's dirt preventing the
proper operation, then odd results may occur.

If you pull out the key itself, you should be able to see these contacts.
You can press on them/wiggle them with your finger tip and make sure they're
making contact as expected. Of course, if you can get in to them - cleaning
the contacts themselves is always a good idea.

One other (less likely) posibility is the software setup on the Polaris.
There is a process noted in the service manual which allow you to
individually adjust the sensitivity of individual keys.

Thank you, I'll try to remove the key, because I want my Polaris to work perfect.
I'm not a collector, I like to play with these instruments.
I recently bought also a Sequential Multitrak in good conditions from Poland, broken sides and the last key during transport, I replaced the sides with two sides of wood, very beautyful. Also adjusted the broken key.
Tomorrow I'll post photos.
The multitrak sounds better than I expect, I thaught it have a sound similar to a Juno 60, bu ti is more powerful, expecially the filter...
Thanks
Edo
