kaput polaris part 2

kaput polaris part 2

2005-11-22 by colmaouno

I went thru the 'polaris ui commands' (very helpful btw) but no success. now i can hear a
faint thumb when i play keys. i tried everything from midi reset, warm reset, cold reset
(have no idea what they did really), then I switched on main local control switch, link local
control switch, sequencer local control switch, the main chroma out, link chroma out and
so on... after time somehow when i go back and hit LF, B (Interface options) the 4 (main
chroma out), 5 (link chroma out), 6 (sequencer midi in swtich) LED's turn off and they
shouldn't, i think, cuz I turned all 1-12 on. LF,C,5 (chroma program switch) does not work
and LED does not light up on 5. i also enabled all the links (dam wish i knew how to do
that before, to get all 6 voices working!!! im pissed). midi seems to be working fine now... i
think all my programs (presets) were all erased some how.. still does not explain why no
sound is coming out except for the thump when i turn the volume all the way up and play
keys. thump is hardely audible when i set oscillators to pulse waves. oh yea clicks
(metronome, etc) working fine. record on sequencer stopped working, so did the pedal for
bpm. i think my polaris is trying to come back from the dead cuz as i write this im trying
to fix it and now the thumping noice is sounded like a gong on crack. oh wait, back to the
thumping sound again.. its a nice kick sound actually. well there u have it.. a detailed and
headache enducing description of my dilemma. thanks for reading all the way to this
point. cheers!

If the keyboard hasn't come back to life on its own, then perhaps the best
thing to do would be to go through the full restart procedure.

Specifically, refer to the "What to Do If You Loose Your Memory" section of
the service manual
(http://www.rhodeschroma.com/content/polaris/servicemanual.pdf). This is
covered in chapter 6, and it summarizes all the steps to go through and
reset the memory, and to redo the necessary setup of the keyboard.

Once the keyboard is at least able to play its scratch patch again, you can
load up some patches. The factory patches and sequences are available here:
