If it looks like you can 'auto-tune' and if all the buttons work, then
the machine is at least 90% working (which is a great sign).

With the changing of the setup (e.g., RAM/PROMs) you'll need to do a
full setup to get anything to come out - so it is confirmed that you
will have to do the full calibration, esp. the summarized steps outlined
in the "What To Do If You Lose Your Memory" section here:

http://www.rhodeschroma.com/?id=polarisserviceadjustmentscheckout

Part of these adjustments expect/require that you will hear output from
the Chroma. If you can't hear anything as part of those tests, then
that will need to be investigated first (e.g., try both the high/low
outputs, ensure the output lines attached, etc.)

If you can hear output as part of the adjustments, then you should be
able to hear output from the patches - as long as you either have a
scratch patch set up () or have paches otherwise created/loaded.

Two of the SRAM chips shown in your photo are not LP types.
Those may have standby current high enough to run your batteries down over time.
Probably all of them should be LP ones. Maybe just remove the two that
are not until you can get replacements?

At least check the data sheet for each manufacturer and see what the
standby current is for the non-LP ones.

Thanks everyone - for the meantime I have transferred the Polaris into the good hands of Greg - klosmon, he's a few minute drive from me (lucky!) - I am slammed with work the next few weeks and want to get this thing running properly - it seems like its sooooo close  - but I've reached the end of my rope as far as knowledge - I can do decent desoldering and soldering, can check voltages, but when we start getting into needing a scope, I'm lost - will work on that skill set this year!

Was such a bummer to go through all that work only to have no sound on power up, but I'm hoping Greg can get it up and running properly...

  will keep you informed!
