I wanted to check my Polaris before replacing the membranes too. I was able to wire up some switches in place of several front panel ones to run a few tests. Like the one that turns on all of the LEDs, and the one that tests the voices. Also, if you can get one voice working, then you can test all of the CEM chips, right? Could you test the CEM chips in a different synth, like your P600? With an ohmmeter, you could see if the keyboard contacts are working. It might take some time, but you should be able to test it before replacing the panels. Too bad, I just threw out my old Polaris panels last week, after saving them for several years. You might have had more luck restoring them than yours, if just for a little while.
