The only situation I know of that gives you long releases is if it thinks the sustain footswitch is pressed. If you happen to connect or disconnect the footswitch after you've turned on the Polaris, it will think that the switch is pressed. This is because it is a normally closed switch, and the firmware assumes that whatever it reads on startup is the released state, so that it will work with a normally open switch as well.
