format advice

2004-03-16 by eblake_smith

Hi there,

I'm about to take at shot at assembling some modules and am
trying to decide on whether or not to make the panels MOTM style
with the 1/4" jacks or the more compact type like Blacet. I like the
idea of a more compact system but I'm concerned that I'd find the
lack of space irritating... Anyways, I was wondering if anyone had
experience with or opinions on both formats . Thanks.

My wiew

- MOTM or MOOG 5U - good spacious panels, but perhaps a bit "tall and narrow"
- Buchla or Serge 4U- perfect
- Blacet, Doepfur etc. A bit too squashed for my liking.

Another factor to consider is the availability of already designed
and available panels in the MOTM format. Many people have built
these in the MOTM format and have panel files that can be used to buy
Schaeffer / Front Panel Express panels. Also, Many of Ken's circuits
(and the list continues to grow) are available as exact MOTM finish
matching panels at:

But, we only make them about 2 times a year.
