Cynare impact /resonance problem

Cynare impact /resonance problem

2008-10-08 by Dave

Hi,

I've built a cynare and for the most part it works fine. I've added
the pots to control the 6 osc pitch and also the impact mod. The
problem I'm having that the impact mod doesn't seem to do much unless
I turn the resonance knob and then the impact sound can be heard for
about 2-3seconds and then it fades away. The filter itself seems to
work ok, the resonance knob turns up the resonance. Any ideas as to
why this is happening? I did have some problems with having the
transistors in backwards, I turned them around and reused them. Is it
possible one of them could be blown?

Thanks,
Dave

The impact is a very short transition that at best adds a "thud". It is
possible it is working just fine, but you aren't recognising it due to
amplifier/speaker combinations etc.

Hi Dave,

Have you increased the value of the 1N impact capacitor ? This is
marked in red in Ken's schematics. I use a 10n here with a 25k pot
and it give a satisfying range of "thwaps."

It shouldn't last 2-3 seconds, are you sure that's not just the
filter ringing ? The impact sound is essentially a click mixed in on
the attack of the drum sound.

Michael Ford

I just replaced the 1N cap with a 10N cap and it sounds good, Thanks
for the tip :)
