The stalling would depend on the individual chip/brand. I have not
experienced it myself.

Re: Digital Noise

Talk about serendipity - last night I decided to try some ideas I've had for
the 4006 shift register, so the first thing I did (to make sure I had it
running right) was to hook some LED's up to the outputs and watch what they
did. It definitely *wasn't* working right.

To make a long story short, the shift registers I have are MC14006, the data
sheet I was using was for the National CD4006BM/CD4006BC. I couldn't find
anywhere to get the datasheet for the MC14006 (without *paying* through the
nose) - I found a datasheet for the SGS-Thomson HCC/HCF4006B that had a
different pinout - and this was the pinout that worked for the MC14006's
that I have. Anyone else ran into this varying of the pinouts on the 4006?
Does anyone have a datasheet for the MC14006?

Take care,
Scott

One is on it's way to you as a .pdf attachment.

Hope it helps.

As far as I can tell, the pin-out is the same. The only difference is in the
labels. One brand labels them D1 D2 etc, while the other uses a number that
actually relates to the stage number in the shift register.

For what it's worth I appear to have used a HEF4006 by SGS in one of mine.
I'll ahve to pull things apart to look at any others.

Re: Digital Noise

2004-03-06 by Scott Stites

Hi Ken,

Yeah, now that I examine it closer, they really aren't different. What
threw me off (other than a misplaced wire) was a pinout that I found showing
pin 2 as the only connection for D1+4 (where the original data sheet had it
as 'no connection') before I found the Thomson data sheet, which has it back
in the original position, plus pin 2 is labeled D1+4 as well as pin 13.

Anyhoo, I got it working last night. Thanks for the data sheet, Dave, and
sorry to take up your time, Ken. It's a fun chip to work with, BTW. I've
got a comparator on the front end so that I can feed it noise and other
signals. I'm then buffering the outputs and using them for gates and also
to mix through pots into a mixer for random tunes (16 levels of variation
are possible this way - 64 if I use the D+5 outputs). It's a Stone/Buchla
inspired kind of thing...

I plan to use the outputs for addressing other functions randomly or
semi-randomly. Addressing a simple DAC with the 6 outputs is something I'd
like to try (again, 64 levels, but no pots to futz with).

Cheers,
Scott
