I am learning all about the BCF in Live however I am unable to get my 16 push buttoms to send receive data, all other functions are fine..I am NOT in a emulation mode. This brings me too question 2. I cannot get into any Emulation Mode, maybe because the buttons are inactive\u2026..(Hold down top left and power up for Mackie just gets me to standard mode.)I cannot assign anyrhing to these buttons using either learn or midi mapping in live (which is super easy) I think I posted a similar note before but maybe someone can help J

The 16 push buttons ... so these the ones called switch type encoders in the manual right.
Manual says they can send PGM change, CC, NPRN, NOTE, After touch, MMC and GS.XG {Roland and Yamaha format}
A neat trick is to pair two to same parameter.
One does INC, the other does DEC. And they know where eachother is so you get smooth inc/dec.
For NRPN mode you will probably have to use Mark's software.
AFAIK The NRPN fires in coarse mode, so increment of 128.
For Miniak, I had to use trick to send fine mode (incr of 1).
So this is how/what the buttons can do.
I have no idea what happens when you use Emulation mode.
I dont know what this is (Mackie Control emulation?).
Like I said, if I understand things correctly, Live associates a map of its internal control to the external controller.
So if the BCR learns stuff from Live, then a dump of the BCR sysex into Mark's software will show you precisely what it did.
No guessing ... no theory ... just pure certainty.
If Live folks can bring their questions to that level, I suspect the real experts will probably have no problem telling you what is easy, and what is hard.
I am reasonable sure they dont use live else I am sure they would have answered the questions.
In terms of the two button trick, this chap uses it here in Live.
Let us know if you can get any of this stuff working since it would be a big clue on how to progress.

Thanks for the reply mate! I will pursue this later, when I am home. The BC Manager looks so intimidating but I am going to try that. I have patience! I will set the Panic Reset mode to get everything back to normal then set up the BCF to U2 as the manual says. I am so grateful for your help....I have been recording for 40 years and I love Live and I am not a quitter.....but the BCM seems the way to go.....It seems as if the creator of the BCM has done a lot of work...if I can get it to help me I will be a happy donator! btw..most of my recording is acoustic violin / harp...using sennheiser mikes and phones. Again Thanks Steve :) --- In bc2000@yahoogroups.com, sghookings@... wrote:
