tx81z - bcr2000 usb midi out

tx81z - bcr2000 usb midi out

2013-04-03 by darealproductions

hi guys,

great thread. i have been tinkering with the tx81z preset for the bcr2000 and its great. the only problem is it would really be usefull if i could send the messages on usb to ableton then reroute back to the synth. is this possible. i had a look at the preset in bcmanager but could not find any clues as how to set to go through usb! is this atall possible? when i select usb out from the bcr ableton does not recognise anything at all. no midi input. but when i select s1 upwards no problem...

thanks to all in advance

Richard

i think i need to rephrase.... i dont think i made my self clear, sorry...

when i connect the bcr directly to the tx81z works fine. when i passthrough any sequencer it filters it all out. is the preset only for direct connection??

If I understand your signal path,

BCR (MIDI OUT) -> (MIDI IN ) TX cool
BCR (MIDI IN ) <- (MIDI OUT) TX cool

I am guessing maybe in S1 or S3 mode

When you connect via USB you have to be in U mode.
U1 or U3 just as an example (there are 4 modes)

Something like
BCR -> USB -> sequencer -> USB -> BCR

And with extra midi channels in sequencer pumping midi to the tx. can work but the sequencer needs to echo the midi thru. And what are the signal paths to/from kit. And probably you need to choose channels carefully.
And careful ... you can create midi feedback loops which will crash the bcr. Reboot bcr and it should be fine.

So perhaps draw out what you want to achieve.
In doing that recall about channels ... what midi channel is tx programmed on?

Once you drawn a diagram and made a few attempts, post either an ASCII picture or stash a simple diagram in the files section and repose the question , but I think when you draw it out you will understand who isn't passing the message on, and rectify it.
Using midiox can really help here (strong hint).

Regards
Steve H

thanks steve for the quick reply. i had tried all the settings and have finally found out the cause. apparently as i have searched all forums regarding ableton live... they have filters on midi which filters out all sysex and nnrp. so with a simple setup with midi ox i was able to forward the bcr usb to my soundcards midi out without filtering and then in ableton create a normal midi track to play the tz in a seperate track. works perfect. what i still cant understand is why ableton, which is very midi forward (including using m4l) is unable to send on sysex messages. but nevermind. thankyou all for taking the time to help out.

regard richard
