Computer Editor to BCR2000

2009-07-02 by s*

Hey all,

I'm a bit of a n00b here (at least with the BCR2000 anyways (I've only had it for a few days)). I'm trying to wrap my head around programming the BCR2000. Here is what I am interested in programming with it:

Protools, TG77, SQ80, Evolver, MPC1000, DP2, MPX1, A3, s950, Prophet2002, Mirage, Emax II, E6400, Pulse, ER1, ES1, Microwave XT

I have seen a few possible presets for Protools but, not much in the way of the other synths I have mentioned. I was wondering though if it is possible to use an already existing editor like Sound Diver, Unisys or MidiQuest to teach the BCR2000 to control these other synths?

If anyone has any information about how to create presets for these machines (or if there are any already created), I would greatly appreciate any help you can offer.

Thanks!

For Protools it works with HUI in the peripherals settings if you are
using usb, but make sure you go to midi setup first, and set up your bcr before
setting up in the peripherals settings, once you get that done protools
should work fine, now you want download this

Really? For MPC1000 as well? I assumed that any control of the s950 would be limited if any but, I am surprised that the MPC1000 would not offer any controls via the BCR2000.

Re: [bc2000] Computer Editor to BCR2000

2009-07-02 by s*

Just to clarify my original idea... Would it be possible to connect the BCR2000 to a computer, then take a blank preset on the BCR2000, then load up an editor in Sound Diver, Unisyn or MIDIQuest with an editor for one of the specific synths that I mentioned in my previous email and then set one of the knobs/buttons to learn, then trigger a specific parameter in one of these computer based editors to teach the BCR2000 to later control this parameter on the specified synth on it's own? Also, would I need to do this programming via MIDI or could I also do it via USB? I have attached a basic illustration to try and help explain what I mean. I guess what I am really trying to figure out is, if this is possible and if there is any specific way I should approach this or if there any instructions out there to help me figure out how to start this. I read the manual but, my first attempts at this have been unsuccessful.

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Hi

No you can't 'Teach' the BC to send continuous changing Midi messages.
It will only 'Learn' a single message not a variable one. OK for
switches.
The BC will put out a continuous Midi including sysex (including a
checksum if your synth needs it) but you have to program it.
Behringer say it won't, but it will.
The Behringer manual won't tell anything about how to do this kind of
stuff.

0) Go the the Wiki mentioned at the Home page of this group for some
basic info

1) go get Mark's editor at his web site Mountain Utilities (Link in the
files section )
2) get a copy of the sysex spec of the synth - You can use SoundDiver
etc to output the message so YOU can look at it with MidiOx instead
of/as well as looking in the sysex spec.
3) Read my pdf in the Documents section of the Files here or Mark's full
BCL document at his web site
4) Have a look at some of the synth files in the preset section of the
Files for examples of synth controlled by the BC
5) Select a control (eg encoder ) on the editor and go to the "Learn'
section of the editor and write in the sysex message you want the
encoder to output. Dowload it to the BC
6) Come back here for more help if (when?) it doesn't work as you
thought it should.

All the best

Royce

In one of JJOS's re-incarnations (MPC 3rd party OS) you can assign one or two CC to MPC ( 1 or 2) and that's it...
mpc isn't multitimbral, one program at once only, one midi channel...
quite unbelievable as for machine in 2000 ish.....

Re: [bc2000] Computer Editor to BCR2000

Thanks for all the advice guys. If anyone is working on an editor for any of the synths I mentioned:

TG77, SQ80, Evolver, MPC1000, DP2, MPX1, A3, s950, Prophet2002, Mirage, Emax II, E6400, Pulse, ER1, ES1, Microwave XT

Please let me know. I am familiar with sysex (basically only as far as dumping goes) but, still very new to editing it. I am going to attempt to work on a TG77 editor (as a hardware editor for that thing would be very handy). I assume that the TX81z sysex will be a good file to reference to as they are both Yamaha FM synths from a similar time frame. I also found a pdf of the Midi data format specs for the TG77. If anyone can offer any helpful suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks again,

Hi
you might like to look at my TQ5 preset - Yamaha 4 Op FM synth as a starting point.
