Encoder Control Change Modes

2009-05-06 by iliketomix

Can someone help me understand the encoder Control Change modes?
I'm still looking for a way to get my BCR to update
according to the current state of my Yamaha 01V96 mixer.

I can use NRPN to get the 01V to do absolutely anything, but the BCR
doesn't react to NRPN (what Yamaha calls Parameter Change) from the 01V,
so I'm trying to do it all with Control Changes.

Moving an 01V fader updates the BCR regardless of encoder mode.
I can update the BCR by manually bumping each controlled parameter on the 01V.
However, they're on multiple pages, and may be nearly randomly assigned.
If I can find a BC encoder mode that sends a relative change,
tweaking each encoder on the BCR should update it.

Absolute works as expected but, of course, I lose whatever was on the 01V.
Relative (2's complement)is a large increment reverse taper.
Relative (binary offset)kicks the 01V fader about a third up,
and then moves a little up or down.
Relative (sign in MS bit) jumps from off to 1/3, in reverse taper.
Increment/decrement does nothing, as it says in the MIDI Implementation doc.

Most of these don't seem too useful.
Is there something that will do what I want?
