Akai S1100 Service Manual

Akai S1100 Service Manual

2009-06-10 by mike.wolak

Does anyone have a pdf of the S1100 service manual? I have a paper copy of the S1100 manual which contains a version 2.0 addendum and it states "the S1100 Version 2.00 requires a hardware change to be made as well as having the two ROMs fitted". I have the 2.00 Roms but I have no idea what this hardware change requires. I do know that every time I try to invoke the direct-to-disk features which 2.00 provides the S1100 displays a message indicating "HARDWARE CHANGE NEEDED FOR DD OPERATION".

Thanks,

Mike Wolak

Mike, I myself try to find a Akai S-1100 service manual since years and there´s no hope.
It seems, only authorized Akai service has it and they don´t make copys.

Are you sure, all the S-1100 samplers need that hardware modification,- what´s the serial number of your sampler ?
I never tried to do the DD recording w/ my 2 1100s and have never seen that message.

You try to record to an external or internal SCSI drive ?

I'm not sure if *all* S1100's need this modification but I bet they do considering the addendum clearly states it and makes no exceptions. I've tried recording to various SCSI hard drives from the early 90's to more modern 9gb drives as well with a 100MB zip.

My S1100 is a UK model and the serial number is 79145-60242 . I had a hard time reading the numbers so a digit may be off. It has 32MB ram, SCSI zip drive, Apple CDROM, and the S1100EX ( US 120v model ) expander connected. I have tried disconnecting all but a SCSI hard drive and the results are the same. In fact, it will give the same error with nothing connected.

I've tried with 2 different OS versions ( 2.2 and 4.30 ) and both exhibit the same behavior. I do have the 1.36 EPROMS but that rev does not support Direct-to-Disk recording.

For kicks I even tried initiating it from within "Mode 1" on my S1100EX, that off course didn't work as the EX has no sample inputs however it did not give the same message, it politely told me direct to disk recording was not available on the S1100EX.

Thanks,
