Technical problem with unit, or known issue / glitch?

Technical problem with unit, or known issue / glitch?

2006-01-03 by james_p2213

Hi, I have just recently acquired an Akai S1000 sampler, and am
buying another one, but have hit upon a technical problem / glitch
with using it.

I have experienced this problem with both the operating system which
came pre-installed on the ROMS of the unit (v2.00), and have since
tried downloading the latest operating system v4.40 from Akai's
website, but still the problem remains.

This is the sequence of events (I have tried several times in case
the 'fault' was a one off)

After I have made several stereo samples (using MIDI note as a
trigger rather than threshold in case this is relevant), and assigned
them to programs and keygroups, and individual midi channels, when I
trigger them one by one from a midi keyboard, one or two of the
stereo samples only plays the -L, or -R part of the sample
intermittantly, ie this fault fluctuates as I keep pressing the midi
key that triggers it, the fault occurs and doesn't occur - randomly
fluctuating.

I have set Coherance to be on for all samples, but the problem
remains.

Apart from this, the sampler is an excellent machine, but I need to
remedy this as it will cause Stereo inconsistancy in my compositions.

Is this a known technical issue with the machine, or do I need to
have it repaired?

Many thanks for your time as I cannot find any info out there, and
I'm going nuts trying to remedy it!!!

hi,just a guess, but try changing the priority to high or hold, might work then?

>> Hi Melvin, thanks for replying.

Unfortunately, this fault occurs when only that sample pair is played
from a MIDI keyboard, so it's not an issue of other programs
requiring the S100's resources.

I have today recieved this message from Cimple Solutions who Akai
recommended who could possibly fix it:-

Message #1:-

Hi James

This would not be economical to repair.

Message #2:-

Hi James

Yes we have heard of this problem, it probably needs a new
interpolator which is no longer available unless you can rip one out
of another machine. This would be the first thing to check but may
not solve the problem.

Can anyone help? .... PLEASE!!

oh dear! You could pair off the samples and put them out of two of the mono outs which could be wired up to a mixer paned left and right on the mixer chanels?
infact i never really use the stereo outs, saves on memory!

Thanks Melvin, but I don't really want to do that, I really need it
to work properly .. Re Cimple Solutions' messages (Akai recommended
them, and they don't seem to want to touch it with a barge pole!!)
I'm not convinced that the interpolator is broken - does anyone else
have any experience of this fault/issue? Unit cost me £100 and don't
think I can get my money back - I expect spares will be hard to come
by also .. apart from this niggle, everything is fine! Came with
manulas and everything!!

ANY suggestions from anyone would be most helpful.. PLEASE!

Re: Technical problem with unit, or known issue / glitch?

2006-01-09 by james_p2213

>> I have now got my second Akai S1000, and the same thing happens as
the first, so it must be something intrinsic to both units, as I'm
certain both units aren't defective.

Come on all you S1000 users! Doesn't any of you know what I'm
talking about?

I LOVE both my machines, but there is certainly a technical glitch I
have found with them.

Just to recap, if you make about 10 stereo samples, each one 44.1KHz,
length 0.75 secs, with MIDI note as a trigger, and save ENTIRE VOLUME
to disk, when you reload this volume back into the S1000, as you play
each drum repeatedly in turn, 1 or 2 samples, will fluctuate between
both -L and -R parts playing in unison, and only one sounding.

Please try it, and let me know if I'm imagining things, it's a trait
of the machine, or I'm crazy. I've tried all the setting adjustments
I can think of, and both my units do this, so I'm confident they're
both sound.

Desperate for help and input!!

James
