Akai S1100 stucks at boot/unresponsive.

Hi all,

I've got a S1100 in non working condition.

The unit is clean and the PSU voltages are ok.

All I get with power on is the main screen without any O.S version info and without floppy seek or any other signs of activity.

Buttons are not responsive and I can't get into the hardware test.

The display is clear, no lines etc.

The sampler does the same whether a ram board is installed or not so I guess I should start with the ram.

The ram board inside the unit is probably 8mb but I read somewhere that the S1100 needs 2MB in the first ram slot to work.

Is this a fact?

If yes I can order a 2mb ram and check that.

I'm also guessing that the OS rom chips could also be the culprit (corrupted?!) so I'll wait for 4.3 OS chips to arrive as well.

If anyone has/had the same problem I'd be glad to chime in.

Thanks!

I forgot to mention that the lcd does not show "TEST PROGRAM" when the
machine is powered on.

I only get the basic menu (soft key labels etc).

And forget everything I've said about the RAM since the installed ram
board is indeed 2mb and the dip switch settings are set correctly ( 1, 2
-> off 3,4 -> on )

Various test points (TP1, TP2 etc) on the CPU pcb show square waveforms
(timings?) of with a lot of ringing and ripple but the edges are really
fast.

Measured ripple on the logic chips is less than 10mV so I wouldn't start
at the power supply right now since that may be acceptable.

At the moment I think it's either some kind of ROM issue(because no test
program) , or maybe a logic issue or even worse some kind of CPU issue.
