akai s1100 FX are so nice, but is the digital noise/ static normal?

Hi all, picked up a s1100, and expander. Great sound, though the analogue input doesn't work, and seems to be due to an op amp or ADC problem, which I've ordered so we'll see...any suggestion to other possible causes would be ace, I've tested the board, and there's signal present uo to the op amp input.
It came with the AES/EBU option though, so I've been able to use it anyway.
Really love the FX but can't help but be a little disappointed by the crackly noise that's audible near the end of reverbs/delays. Thought it might be my FX card, but swapping it with the one from the EX (which I haven't tried yet because it didn't come with a SCSI lead) doesn't make a difference which made me think it probably isn't a faulty FX card
It can't be the DAC either because samples sound pristine without any noise in their tail, just the FX that have it. Is this normal??
