Erratic S1000

I have an S1000 that behaves erratic.
There are four 2Mb
boards in it but it only sees two of them. It does not matter what
mem-cards are or in what slot they're sitting. I have swapped them
around completely now. I have five 2Mb cards in total. The S1000 can only see two at a time. And it does not matter what slot they sit on.
I guess all five cards are OK and all slots are OK. Still the OS only recoqnizes two of the four slots/cards.
While running the built in hardware test the OS says "SHORTED ADDR?"
The machine samples and plays back the entire 4Mb / 2MWord memory without distortion or other hearable errors.
Where can I start searching? I'd love to fix machine and sell it.
