S1100 PSU

2015-01-27 by Simon Hughes

Hi,
I have 2 S1100 with PSU problems one is just noisy (lets off a high pitch whine) and another I dont think is supplying enough power for the unit to function (LED fills up when powered on. I have now identified this as a PSU problem as when I switched over was OK). Has anybody any advice on either repairing or replacing them ?
Thanks,
Simon

First thing I would do is replace the caps on your power supply board... Seeing how old these samplers are the caps are reaching their life expectancy...

you could fix the old power supply by changing pretty much blindly replacing capacitors, transistors and diodes untill it starts working again.

but you could also measure the voltages of the working power supply, go to an electronics shop and find a new (and smaller and lighter) power supply with the right voltages and power rating.

Hey,

It is very common that high pitch noise occurs because of the display inverter. My unit does the same. You can fix it by replacing the inverter with a S950 inverter. The inverter must be played on the same board as the s1100 inverer, the board of the s950 will not fit the s1100. so it needs a bit of modding.

check the inverter thread at mpc forums, loads of knowledge in there.

Cheers,
Nikolas
