S1100 OSv4.3 with Mesa?

S1100 OSv4.3 with Mesa?

2014-07-10 by squaredtee@...

Hi folks.

Has anyone tried using an S1100 with final OS4.3(supposed to make it compatible with S3000 series), with MESA?

Works or not?

How about Millenium?

Thanks a lot and best regards

T.

With OS v4.3, the S1100 can read S3000 format, wicth is a advantage, because a lot of Akai sample CD's are in S3000 format instead of S1000 format
MESA or Millennium do not work with the S1100 (at least not on Windows)

My S3000xl works with Mesa on Mac os9, my S1000 does not, however one of the users on this forum has had some success with the S1100 and recycle on windows xp, here is a video where he explains https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0v0YHZhZTMk

Mesa is temperamental, and will frequently freeze, recycle and peak are a bit more reliable for actually getting samples across

I am that user that made that video

I only managed to send samples to the S1100 (recieving samples does not work, but to my opninion that's less important).

I'm still struggling to get SMDI working (directly) in Windows 8.1. No luck so far.

Cheers

Hi everyone and thanks vm for the replies.

I had an idea that it might be possible to run 2 scsi cards in the same pc and connect one scsi bus to my S3000 machines and the other to the S1100 and somehow make MESA dance my tune. Then I woke up back in the 1990's.

Cheers all ;-)

If your S3000 is the XL version you can use MESA or Millennium

I have 2pcs S3200XL and use both MESA and Millennium.

The big advantage of the S1100 OS v4.3 is that I can make programs on the S3200XL (with MESA or Millennium) and read them in the S1100 directly, so there is no need to connect the S1100 via SCSI to a PC and try to edit via SCSI.

Strangely enough programs made with my S2800 O.S 2 can't be read by my S1100 O,S 4.3.It messes up the floppy volume name and does not read anything. The S1100 works fine in general but i seem to have this bug.
Anyone might suggest what i could be doing wrong?

I'm not shure, bur maybe, the S1100 (v4.3) can only read S3000 format via SCSI (and not via floppy ) ?

I have no problems to read programs made on my S3200XL on my S1100. I only tried SCSI, both Zipdisk and CF cards. I have no floppy drive in my S1100 anymore, so I can not test this.
Also I have no problems to read S3000 CD-roms in my S1100 via SCSI

Thanks for the fast reply.I don't know.I'll be getting a scsi card for my pc soon so i'll try it that way.I could also try midi transfer of a program but i'm not sure it will be recognised..I only use midi for transferring .wav files
I'd love if i could also transfer .rex files but haven't tried that.Do you by any chance managed transferring a chopped loop via sysex?I wonder what conversion the programs that succesfully do that use.

Edit: Ι was wrong about reading.I can't *write* to S3000 format which seems reasonable...

MESA doesnt work w/ S1000 / S1000PB and S1100.

The 1st sampler working w/ MESA was AKAI S2000.
