Akai S1000 / S1100 samplers

Hi all.

I recently bought an S1000KB fully expanded with 32MB, digi in/out 
and SCSI.

I hooked it up to my old Apple CDROM drive and inserted one of my 
Akai CDROM's into it.

The Akai CAN read the content on the CDROM, but whenever I try to 
load anything it stops as soon as it tries to load a sample (it gives 
me a Hard Disk Error message). It seems to load the empty presets 
fine.

Am I setting it up wrong ? Am I supposed to do anything special in 
the OS ?

I have terminated the CDROM drive in the SCSI chain, and I've set the 
Hard Drive ID to the same as the CDROM drive.
