Re: cdrom drive

Hi,

Nice to hear from you !

regarding the cdrom:
Well, some people are convinced that your cdrom must work with the
S1000: "Many thanks to Alois Kleewein who has confirmed that the
S1000 works with Sony Spressa CD-R drives, as well as Apple 300e and
600e CD-ROM drives. Also, the S1000 apparently will NOT work with the
Yamaha crw 4260tx CD-R drive." (look at: http://www.planet-
zero.org/wiki/index.php/AkaiS1000PB ).

The problem might be the scsi card. Check the terminator resistors on
it. A common problem is that people remove the scsi cable when the
sampler is still powered. That can damage the scsi card. You may find
one at ebay or buy one from mutec in germany (see the links section).
Did you ckeck the SCSI FAQ for akai samplers ? (also look in the
links section) Make sure the problem is not in the cdrom drive! Check
that with a pc and make sure you use the right channel.

regarding choosing a sampler:
These days people go for a 'vintage' sampler like the S1000 / S1100
because of the sound or the full compatibility with so many sample
cd's - not so much because of the features. We got that discussion
before. I have a yamaha and a mpc2000xl and for some sounds I prefer
the S1100 without any hesitation. An Mpc60 / S950 is on my wishlist,
just because of that sound.

Rgds,
Frank
