If you boot a S-1xxxx series sampler w/ a connected SCSI HD, MOD or Zip (w/ inserted media containing the latest OS) already running,- S-1xxx sampler loads the latest OS from that media overriding the older OS in ROM. Same behaviour like it is w/ a floppy disk. Theres this "waiting for harddisk ready" message you can skip w/ F7. IF the harddisk or any SCSI media drive is "ready" before power up of the S-1xxx sampler, the sampler recognizes the running drive and loads highest OS available on that drive. If you power up S-1xxx series sampler before powering up the drive, it doesnt work. SCSI IDs must be set up right for correct operation. Its a idea to have a floppy drive replaced by a zip or MOD though !
