All Akai s1000 and s1100 HD units have the hard drives attached to to the SCSI card. These cards are much bigger than the standard SCSI card. So installing your own HD is a bit more work but I have had great success with the i omega zip 100 SCSI drives, both internal and external. Rish Life is like MIDI, your either IN, OUT or THRU.
