New composition for solo theremin and loops

New composition for solo theremin and loops

2007-07-03 by kkissinger@kevinkissinger.com

Hello!

The set that I played last June at Electro-Music 2007 included two
works with looping. One of the works, entitled "Three-Legged Race"
consists of solo Theremin and multiple-synchronized loops. To listen
and learn more about this work follow go to:

http://kevinkissinger.com/threeleggedrace.shtml

The set was well-recieved and my efforts now are to create more works
that are done in real-time without pre-recorded elements.
"Three-Legged Race" is the "pure" Theremin tone with loops. My
upcoming work will incorporate additional techniques that includes
pitch-shifters, harmonizer, various filters, and longer delay times.

Hope you enjoy this track. Thank you for listening.

Kevin,
Very cool. What software do you use to loop?

Thank you, bret.

I used a laptop running Cubase SX3 with an RME800 firewire interface
(system latency is around 8ms).

To loop, I am using a VST plugin that came with Cubase called "Double
Delay". It simply has seperate delays on the left and right and can
be independently controlled via VST automation.

In "Three Legged Race" I used four instances of the "Double Delay" plugin.

Lately I have experimented with another VST plugin called
"Angstrolooper" that has much longer delay times (up to 32 bars). The
prospect of long loops along with the relatively short loops of
"Double Delay" is exciting, indeed.

Thank you, Carvin! You'd probably enjoy hearing this live. When
playing this live, I perform through a 5.1 system (five SRM450s and
two SWA1501s). The loops are distributed throughout the surround
field and the bass notes are fed to the subs. Of course, the mix here
is a fold-down to stereo.

Nice to hear that you "cranked it up". Hope it didn't scare your
neighbors too much. :)
