I actually built analog video synthesizers while working with David Jones at the Experimental TV Center in the seventies. http://www.experimentaltvcenter.org/index.html http://www.audiovisualizers.com/toolshak/vidsynth/djones/djones.htm See the two yellow boxes with black knobs in the upper right of the photo of David? It is an analog synthesizer I built for the ETC. I am mentioned on the site, but they don't know what I did really. It says something about a video switcher. I do remember building a video matrix switcher (8 inputs routed to any of 8 outputs I think). But I don't remember the details. http://www.audiovisualizers.com/toolshak/vidsynth/brewster/brewster.htm Analog video requires a 10Mhz bandwidth. In those days it had to be all discrete transistors. Now days, I imagine there are high slew rate op amps that could handle video. For high quality you would want multi-layer PC boards. Shielding is a much bigger concern; you use a lot of coax internally. The standard connector is a BNC jack. One of the things David and I worked on was interfacing audio and video synthesizers. David's voltage controlled video mixers, keyers, and colorizers could be controlled by LFO's, Envelope Generators, and so forth. We had a limited budget, so the quality of the signal suffered in some of the prototypes (bleed-through, and video sent through scratchy pots). David kept improving his designs and had his own business later. Seems he still has it. http://www.djdesign.com/ Richard Brewster http://www.pugix.com Captain Quality wrote: > I can't think of another modern modular company that is better poised > to create a video synthesizer module. > > Why are there no analog video synths being made?
