hi list,
interesting problem... during my analog career i had a korg sq 10, then a
doepfer 16/3 v1.0 and at the moment i have some of the smaller serge
sequencers and two arp sequencers. the arp sequencers have a lot of cool
features like quantizers and three gate busses but mechanically they are not
very satisfying imho. the sliders are fragile and the switches don't feel
very solid. the doepfer sequencer also suffered from flimsy pots. for me the
useability of a sequencer is partly determined by the mechanical quality
because while using the sequencer it is important for me that i can use the
user interface without having to fear that i damage something.
the producer of the sam16 sequencer claims that he is only using high class
switches and pots but then he charges about 1700 euros for one sequencer
which is not that cheap..... and some of the more advanced features are only
usabe with midi. still, in europe this might be an alternative to the serge
tkb which costs something like 1800$ including shipping.
