alternative to vintage power supplies

alternative to vintage power supplies

2013-08-16 by robert

hey does anyone have vintage serge power supplies that they have replaced with newer alternatives?
i'm speaking of the kind with cinch-jones connectors - i know - ancient.
i've got two for an 8 panel system, one is larger(5 outs) than the other(3).
lately i've experienced i kind of shutdown with big involved patches that used to not happen before and i'm wondering if the upgraded mixers which i'm assuming draw more current are putting more load on the supplies and they shut off.
please understand i'm no electrical engineer-
when i power off and on again everything's fine but it's bothersome and has kept me from patching away when inspiration strikes.
so i'm looking into newer unit(s) with more current capacity if it's not too expensive.
thanks for any help-

It sounds like your supplies are in need of re-capping. Condor or Power One supplies can be used, but with older systems you will probably need the additional 6V line. That was usually supplied by a 7806 chip jury rigged onto the base supply.
