Obelisk and External PSD board

Obelisk and External PSD board

2011-11-19 by Bakis Sirros

hi list,

one question, just to be sure:

the Obelisk is nothing but an internal PSD, just like the external PSD boar, right?

(ok, the obelisk has two indicator leds and the black banana input with the blue led of course). but, apart, from these, the obelisk is just an internal PSD, am i right?

so, if i want, i can connect an m-odule directly to an external PSD and then to a Serge PSU (for example a PS4 or PS6, etc...)

thanks for your help in advance,
Bakis.

The <cough>obelisk</cough> is a power distribution PCB, and has that additional signal-presence circuitry, yes. Both distro's are nearly identical, so you can safely connect your M's to the external PSD.

Hello Guy..

.. do you have any additional info on the signal-presence circuitry?

thanks
y.

It's a simple thing.
Something like this ?

Hi Guy..

Thanks for the rapid reply.. I apologize, but I'm a bit rusty concerning my analogue circuitry.. could you briefly describe pls the purpose of the circuit, if possible?

cheers
y.

Re: Obelisk and External PSD board

It's only purpose is to visually check [the strength of] any signal you patch into the black socket (the "IN" on the PCB model).
For instance, this can be useful with complicated patches where you are not sure if a particular source is indeed generating the signal [of a certain strength] you think it is or should be generating. Or simply use it to continuously and visually monitor a CV source which doesn't have a signal LED on its own, or which is a complex mixture of several sources...
Obviously it's of most use with CV's, or even Gates/Triggers, though it won't burn down your house if you input an audio signal.

Does that help ?
