Greetings!

Greetings!

2001-07-25 by Ernie Deaks

I just found out about this group and just wanted to say hello! I have
a compact 5 panel Serge system plus a Fenix. The two systems have been the
main workhorses for all my productions over the last 2 years.

My first question for the group is: Where can I order a good OSCscope
in Europe at a decent price? Specifically what brands/models would you
recommend? I'm looking for something simple. Just some time controls and
X/Y controls. Plus a nice big green waveform display :) Something under
$200 would be great.

Also, when I first had my system I accidentally made a compressor patch
using the WAD's AUX input. I haven't actually used the patch in a long time
(got some other 'real' compressors for that) but I'll be glad to post it
once I can re-figure out exactly what it was! It had a unique quality of
'squash' though which seemed to be coming from raising the amplitude of a
phase inverted signal, thereby canceling out the original signal. I'm sure
some of you can figure this out without any diagrams. The cool part about
it was that if you turned the AUX in to the left, you got compression, but
if you turned to the right it produced a 'boosting' effect.

OH Yeah! Is there anybody in Europe who can do minor fixes to Serge
panels?? Rex has never mentioned anyone, but perhaps there is. The CHAN 2
input on my DCSM is phase inverted. I never really noticed it before, but
recently I've been processing more drums through it and the
kicks/toms/snares were getting all f'd up! Fortunatley I have dual phaser
nearby which has provided a temporary fix, but I'd like to figure out what's
really wrong. I could also use the Phase invert function on my mixer, but
since I always use the AUX inputs (and they are in proper phase), this
screws things up too!

Cheers!

For less than $200 you need to go with a used oscilloscope - try ebay.
Tektronix scopes are best, Hewlett Packard, Philips and Hitachi are good as
well. I've also heard Hameg get some good comments from Europeans. Model
numbers are too numerous to mention. Try looking for something fairly
compact, with 2 channels, 20 MHz or better. Look for someone offerring a 90
day warrantee, otherwise you might need a scope to fix it!
