Frequency Shifter sounds without Frequency Shifter

2009-03-10 by roelelec

Hi all,

After realising a staircase generator (without using a comparator. Although I used the SSG, I didn't use the CUPL with comparator for it!)
I now managed to get real Freq. Shifter sounds out of my 2 M-panels!!

I've got the Serge version of the metallic outstretched sounds like Tomita did on albums like Pictures at an exhibition and Firebird with his Moog modular. Which means these were more on edge. Beside that a electronic processed voice on metal basis too! It comes close to the sound you get with a ppg wave, but then more disharmonic. I was really amazed that I got get these sounds out of my little set.
The main core for this lies in the tremendous possibilities of Rex'es beautiful and intricate invention TGO. This in combination with the VC gain on the X-fader. I also noticed that by patching f.e. a NTO you can use the freq. knob as extra knob for the TGO.
All in all I used 12 patchcords for this patch.
I had noted down the patch onto the knob positions. I managed to get 95% of what I had back. The sound was the same, only this time there were time intervals, but I'm sure I would get it 100% right, had I more time for fiddleling the knobs.

Cheers,

Roel
