Some basic questions

Some basic questions

2008-08-18 by Mark Griffiths

Hi, long time lurker, first post. The new m-odules and to an extent the shop panels are very interesting. I have a couple of very basic questions;
1. I'm in the UK, how much of a hassle is it to convert it to 240volts? Is that something that STS do? With the Blacet stuff, all you have to do is pop out a little panel in the PSU and put it back reversed and plug in "kettle lead".
2. Is connecting to another system straight forward, ie the audio, CV and gate connections. Presumably you need a cable that is jack to (in my case) 3.5mm jack. Is that it?
regards, Mark

All I know about 1.) is that its easy to buy qquality 120/240 voltage
converters and I used them with no problems with modular analog gear in
europe.

2.) Is easy and definitive: you need and desire 4mm banana connections
for cv,gate. everything. In some cases, I understand that you
can "banannaize" 3.5mm jacks (oops, sockets) by drilling them out to
4mm and disconnecting the ground.

Can't see how you can make the 4mm Serge sockets smaller though :)
Sorry ...you'll probaly need plenty of adapters or a aptch panel to
interface with all but mod-can or cyndusties systems, as far as I know.

I would think that, if you're buying a new system & power supply, that
Rex would ship the system set up for UK voltage, with the correct power
cord installed, and no need for a converter. ???

Interfacing with other systems is easy, so long as you have a common
signal ground connection and the right connectors, as you say. If in
doubt, call Rex about specifics of interfacing with particular equipment.
