Should work. You could just use the holes in the side of the
individual serge panels that currently connect the rack ears to mount
the panels directly to the side panels you made up.

I would think that would look quite nice. Hopefully the serge panels
you have are the low profile version. The high profile Panels are
quite a bit deeper but would probably still work.
