EQ Module

EQ Module

2007-11-15 by riluttante

I'm in the process of going over my system to deepen my understanding of its modules,
especially the functions that aren't clear to me. I'll be posting comments and questions
that arise in the next few days. Maybe I can collect some of the info for the www.serge-
fans.com "wizardry" section, as some module descriptions there could use some more
detail.

I own two EQ modules, on two different panels. I'm not quite understanding the COMB
outputs.

The catalog reads:
"There are three equalized outputs, two which mix the alternate filter bands, and one
which is a mix of all filter bands. The upper (↑ COMB) lets pass the outputs of frequency
bands at 61 Hz, 218 Hz, 777 Hz, 2.8Khz, and 11 Khz. The lower (↓ COMB) mixes the other
bands (29,115,411,1.5K,5.2K)."

So I was expecting the two COMB outputs to output five alternating bands each, or no
signal in case none of its associated controls are turned up. However, the only difference I
can tell between the two outputs is that they seem to be 180 degrees out of phase with
each other (inverted). Every band seems to be audible at both COMB outputs.
Can someone explain this?

Thanks!

Good idea - i'd like to help

I don't find the two comb outputs to be out-of-phase when the controls
are at 12 o´clock
- only when the pots are turned up or down, and then it seems like the
phase-relationship between the
adjacent bands turn with the pot.
