--- In-Memoriam ---

--- In-Memoriam ---

2007-05-28 by Harold Tique

Dear clients and friends,

I am giving notice that I will not be taking any more orders for custom
panels as of Friday June 1st, 2007.

Thank you all for your support and condolences.

Sincerely,

Rex Probe

President
STS

Is this serious? No custom panels anymore?

Does anyone know if Rex will continue to sell shop panels in standard configurations, or
does the sad tone of the message suggest that he's quitting the business altogether?

without having spoken to the man in several weeks but knowing his mindset and what he wants for his life at this point, i'd say that what you see in print is probably fairly accurate. There is lots of life outside of STS and given the choice between fishing on a beautiful Wisconsin lake or slaving over a circuit board. . . . well, hahaha, i think fishing kinda wins out!

Harold Tique (heretic!?) is another alias. That's definitely Rex's address and handwriting.

"In Memoriam" ??
"Thank you all for your support and condolences." ??

The way this stuff is worded, it almost sounds like a family member died
or something.

Weird, very weird.

Re: --- In-Memoriam ---

The support and condolences part makes it sound as if others (members) may
know whats going on. Without getting into any real details, does anyone
know if this is the end of STS?

Well, if it's a death, not of STS, since there is no mention of shop panels, only custom work, then that is very sad, indeed.

Being as concerned as you all are, I called-up Rex this morning to see if everything was Ok.. now i'm not certain if Rex is ready to openly discuss his business roadmap publicly, but i was assured that ye olde Serge synthe shoppe is NOT closing..

.. I will let Mr. Rex elaborate on the specifics as he sees fit (i'm just another client after all ;)

cheers to all...

p.s I wouldn't worry too much about the wording.. i think that we all know that our friend Rex has a very original sense of humor :D

Yulian.

Yulian,

Thanks for trying to clear things up

If he really will stop making custom configurations that would be pretty unfortunate as far
as I'm concerned. I've been thinking up a new custom panel to round out my otherwise
"shop-only" system recently that I was hoping to order sometime this year.
Seems like a serious handicap to me if a modular synth brand wouldn't allow you to pick
the module selection yourself, offering only a few standard configurations instead. But I'll
stop worrying for now and await further info...

I hear you Thomas.. I was actually planning to purchase a panel later on as well and will have to make the move sooner than expected (helllllo Mr. loan officer ;-).. so I'm kinda in the same boat.. I think your best bet is to give Rex a call (i think he prefers phone over email) and find out how (and if) your needs may be addressed past june 1st.. I just dont feel it my place (nor right) to discuss topics that have not been made public (not that i think i have any kind of access to priviledged info anyways)

cheers
y.

i'm hoping maybe this means he might start offering single modules in
order to compete with the other manufacturers? i hope so!

Re: --- In-Memoriam ---

Well, I guess mine was the one that broke the camel's back!

I received the beautiful panel on Friday. It's the one in the middle. You can click on each picture for a humongous view. I had at least one or two more planned. Rex is a 'good trader'.
