Hello everyone -

Just wondering if folks would share a little bit about what they use
to listen to their Serge and what their favorite speaker/mixer/amp
combos are.

I am trying to decide on a mixer/power amp and speaker combo that can
do a Serge justice and produce a nice, confident sound - maybe even
add some character as appropriate.

Are folks using traditional keyboard amps? Mixers and powered
speakers? Power amps and speakers? All of the above?

Thanks for any info anyone can share about their favorite setups and
things they have seen/heard that worked well!

Thanks,
Doug

Hi,

I'm just going straight into a pair of ADAM P11a active monitors. Very
detailed, very clear. The ADAMs have the flattest, wide-ranging response
I've been able to find for under two grand, I like them better than
Tannoy, Genlec or Mackie offerings in the same price range. Simply great
monitors - when I upgraded from my old Tannoys, I couldn't believe all
the detail I'd been missing, like taking cotton earplugs out!

Its hard to believe how many folks have multi-thousand dollar synth
systems going through absolute crap monitoring.

Best Regards, James

when i had my system i used Bryston and Hafler power amps and JBL 4311 and 4312. Also used Mackie powered , NHT Pro powered and Yamaha MSP10M powered. I'm really old school and my ears are old so my favorite combo were the 4311s or 12s with Bryston or Hafler power amps ( 300 watts ) Bryston sounds better , more focus on the bottom and smooth highs. No matter what i used though, i was always a little dissatisfied with the mid-range. Most of my compositions were heavy in the mids so finding a combination that didn't muddy things up was an on going dilemma. I finally settled on the Yamahas but six years down the road with them and i'm not very happy. . . but they're paid for!! LOL
kind regards

I use Genelecs, and once in a while Yamaha actives when I need
something small and portable. Prefer actives over amp'ed as a matter
of convenience - one less elephant to worry about in the studio.

Listen to different combinations and decide on your favorite color.

Regards,

Bill

I'm sending the Serge through an RME Fireface 800 to a pair of biamplified Event Project Studio 6's (PS 6). They are pretty decent in their price range and I know them well. I've had them for about 7 years. When it's time to replace them (how long does it take for monitors to 'break down'?) I'm pretty sure I'll get a pair of Adams. I'm sold on the ribbon tweeter technology, that is, if it's anything like the air-motion transformer. See, I also run my Serge through a Marantz 4200 and my dad's woofer-upgraded pair of ESS AMT-1b's.

It's a different, but very pleasing experience all around.
I use Beyer Dynamic DT-880's (revision b; also a c is available) and the Serge sounds fantastic through them. Definitely a step up from my Beyer Dynamic DT-831's of many years.
    Hope this helps!
    Matt
