power supply advice por favor

Hello there! I picked up a mess of circuit boards and two predrilled
Serge panels that include a VCFVCQ filter, NTO and UEAP along with some
strange customized stuff that really doesnt matter much.
These appear to be mid/late 70's paperfaced modules, the VCF has a
standard looking 4 pin power connector, while the other mess has the
power leads spliced into a 3 banana plug arrangement (+V, -V, ground).
If these modules run on 12V DC, what is to stop me from using any old
12V DC power supply? The only reference Ive found online from this era
says "off the shelf 12V DC power supplies were used".
I was wondering if I could use the power from an AS or Doepfer case to
light up these Serge pieces? Alternatively I can come up with any
variety of 12V DC power supplies, but is there something I should be
aware of or careful about?
Sorry Im pretty clueless, and trying to be careful. Thanks for any
help, I have pictures of the devices and cables if anyone needs to see.
