help w custom panel layout

help w custom panel layout

2006-08-31 by Kim G. Hansen

Hello fellow sergers :)

I'm trying to decide which modules i want in a panel.
- I already have two panels:
a custom that i got built back in 96 and a sequencer panel
that i recently bought úsed from Ross Healy ( Hi Ross )

Obviously i want the new panel to fit right in and complement/strengthen
what i already have in the best possible way, and i was hoping
for your insight and comments in this matter.

My current modules:

Custom panel:

PNRV-NTO-PCO-RING-VCM-AMX-VCFQ-DTG(with bipolar outs)-UAP

sequencer panel:

SEQ8-ASR(Dual)-ACPR-DTG(with cycle switch)-BLOG-SQP4

For the new panel i know i will want a PCO, RS, RING, DSG and maybe a
QUAN - I know i'll need some CV-processing and
mixing too..

How would you lay it out and fill out the panel ?

all the best, - Kim

for my taste you seem to be a little short on the CV processing end. Add a BUFF or a PRC or SPRC. A couple more Oscillators and a Bandwidth filter wouldn't hurt either. I'm big on spinning things around and for that you need at least one XFAD ( two is better ) and a QUO. Of course a DCSM wouldn't hurt either.
just my two cents.

Captain Duval, -

when you say "spinning around" - do you mean
panning in the stereo image ?

Apart from music i make my living as an editor in post-production,
and i'd like to use the Serge for building
atmospheres and soundscapes that moves in a surround
mix.
- Do any of you on the list use serge for things like
that ?

You're right that i need more cv-mixing/processing
maybe a panel layout like this:

QUAN-PCO-NCOM-RS-RING-PRC-XFAD-VCFS-DSG

thats 15" leaving one over for what ? -

Of course if anyone has a used panel like this for sale - :)

Kim -

You should know that Serge has quad panning VC mixers and things like
the quadrature oscillator for modulating panning in quad space.

You prob'ly use some sorta computer gadget to do surround mixing now but
imagine being able to do that with voltage control!
