monitor power amps

It seems that most everyone, myself included, has moved to some sort of self powered monitors. I have Yamaha MSP-10M and some NHTPros. I've had Mackies and BlueSky systems and i've tried the JBL and KRK. They all sound good, but my ears are old and for almost thirty years i mixed and listened to JBL 4311 and 4312. These still sound the best to my ears. However, i unloaded my power amp( small Hafler) a number of years ago, so they sit in the closet. My question is this. I want to go back to using these speakers. What is considered to be a good power amp for monitors these days?? I'll go back to Hafler if i must, but they seemed to muddy up the lower mids. Is anyone here still using this kind of setup and how well does it perform for you. I realize this is a totaly subjective question and will take that into consideration when reading peoples opinions. I should put some sort of price point on the power amp, knowing full well that i could probably buy a good used car for the price of some of the stuff that's out there. Obviously i'm not including or even considering the high, or even mid level "Audiophile" amps. You know, the kind that people buy along with that cable that sells for 50 bucks an inch and "you can sure hear the difference". LOL

I'm sure someone will pipe up with that they can hear the difference. Spare me ok? after forty five years of music, believe me... i can't!!

A Bryston 3b of any vintage would be my choice. My former employer had Haflers, Brystons, SAEs, Yamahas and BGWs (bleah!), and the Brystons were far and away the cream of the crop. We used them with Radians, KRK 7000s and 6000s, NS-10s and yes, even our old 4311s. A new 3B SST Pro, if you can swing the $2200 price, but otherwise find an older 3B ST for about a grand. If you feel lucky, there’s the as-is 1987-vintage 3B NPB that someone’s selling on E-Bay right now. Current bid is $206.50.

Oh, you can hear the difference allright - there is no change jingling in
your pocket to interfere with the sound!

Just to be boring, I just use whatever old hi-fi amp I happen to have to
power my monitors. The stack includes Sony, Pioneer, Playmaster etc.
Buggered if I can tell the difference. As for the wire, I prefer the $50 a
roll type!

I am certain that some people can hear some difference. I am also certain that some cables are ridicilously over-priced. And I am not talkiing about hearing the difference between a $0,5/inch cable and a $50/inch cable, between a 100$ amp and a 10,000 amp, between a toy-software-synth and a state-of-the-art modular. Almost everyone can hear this.
