Full Panels vs. individual modules

Full Panels vs. individual modules

2003-07-25 by darylmey

I never understood the concept of selling only full panels and no
individual modules. I think often people would like to buy one or two
modules to complete their stack for different reasons:

They don't want more at the moment (well – you ALWAYS want more)
Or
They don't have the money to buy more (which is more likely).

And that brings me to the second question:
Did anybody hack off panels to separate them to individual modules?
Would this be a difficult job?

Just curious ….

I agree, this is a serious drawback. It is unfortunate because if you have 2nd hand panels you are stuck with a configuration and selection someone else decided on.
Maybe someone could talk to Rex about changing this? This would surely result in more sales.

It was a trade off, I believe. I asked Rex this question when I first
bought my system, Aesthetically speaking, the panels look cleaner
without all the individual sub panels. As well, Rex decided to stop
offering modules in kit form, in order to increase the general quality
and reliability of Serge panels. Without that kit market, it was that
much less desirable to release sub panels.

I understand your point of view, but I'd have to agree with Rex's
decision.

I think it's possible, but I would assume difficult. The cutting of the
face plate alone would be messy. Then theirs the support system for the
PCBoards and the internal wiring.

Hello???
Check the archives. This subject has been truly done to death.
In fact, many people do not like the all or nothing panel system, but Rex
has consistently refused to change it.
As for hacking into panels, if anyone wants to kiss $3,000 worth of Serge
panel value good bye......go ahead.

Sorry, did not check the archives.
I guess business is good enough for Rex to not want to change his policy.

Full Panels vs. individual modules

Well - the only reason I thought to separate an existing panel into
individual modules was for me the trouble I saw people selling their
panels ... nothing else.
