Graphix for Serge Comp CD...Les? Johnp?

Graphix for Serge Comp CD...Les? Johnp?

2002-10-06 by M. Blake Wilson

Friends:

Since the new 2002 comp is almost complete, its time to get the cover
completed. Frank Moreno has contributed some photos. I have an idea what I
think would be a neat cover.

At SMOG I've posted a very bad mockup of what I envision:

http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/sergemodular/vwp?.dir=/&.src=gr&.dnm=ug
ly+examply+of+my+vision.jpg&.view=t&.done=http%3a//photos.groups.yahoo.com/g
roup/sergemodular/lst%3f%26.dir=/%26.src=gr%26.view=t

(watch the wrap; otherwise its in the photos section at SMOG under "ugly
examply" or photo 20).

Obviously, I like the concept of the EGRES-style Serge graphics, with the
title of the project instead of the normal panel labeling. Can someone make
a "new" module, a square that will be suitable for a cd cover, in this
style? At this point the words are irrelevant; I'd just like to know if it
can be done. (But if you're interested, the title is "Serge Musician Tapes
1983-2002" and then a short description [something like "A collection of
musical pieces utilizing the Serge Modular Music System" or something like
that. I like one word per knob/jack).

Obviously (again), I would have to clear this with Rex, but I don't think it
will be a problem.

So here's your chance to get on the comp (literally!).

Blake

Blake,

You should think about using one half of a DSG as the
"backdrop". It's more square (i.e. closer to a CD cover)
than the NTO and it, in some sense, is more uniquely Serge.

Well, the module I trashed was a WAD, in any event....

And the idea isn't necessarily to use an existent module. I need someone who can create a square graphic that looks just like a Serge module, and, using the same font, create text amounting the title of the project. Its not really a backdrop at all, but rather the graphic design itself. I just took a graphic off EGRES, cut out the Serge text, and clumsily put in my own. I'm sure someone who's got the skills could easily use the same program Rex/Thomas/whomever used to make those graphics and help out on this project.

Hello
I am a professional painter,graphic artist and 3d animator but I don't
currently own a serge!
If someone can sent a picture of the module that will make it to the
cover I could give it a try.

Hi Blake,

I¹ve recently scan Serge Modular graphics (hi-resolution 300 dpi) that Rex
Probe send to me a few months ago. So now I¹ve got each module in order to
plane my future Serge Modular Music System using these graphics and
QuarkXpress. I think it should be quite easy using Photoshop to make a
custom square module for your CD cover. But if Rex can help you I think the
quality will be better (vector graphic vs. bitmap graphic ...).

Stay tune !

Best regards,

Rex is a super guy but moves very slowly on stuff like this ... he's been
talking about providing graphics to EGRES for years now.
Sure the quality would be great, but the quality would also be great if we
exhumed Rembrandt, cloned his DNA, sent him to art school etc....
Some of us want to hear the friggin' CD!
I'm sure whatever we can knock out will be just fine.
